About the Artist

Tracy Kochanski discovered her artistic ability at an early age.  This was followed shortly by a love of horses.  Tracy spent most of her childhood riding and drawing horses.  It wasn’t until years later after a move to western Massachusetts and the discovery of two antique wooden carousels within ten miles of her home, that she realized how to combine her two loves.

Tracy received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Syracuse University.  Her background is in Illustration and Elementary School education.

When creating her horses, Tracy uses the time honored techniques passed down from the master carvers of the original wooden carousels created at the turn of the last century.  She carves each horse by hand using gouges and chisels. After carving and sanding, the surface is primed and Tracy makes the horse come to life with her beautiful painting. The result is a stunning one of a kind horse that will enhance your home or existing collection and can be treasured for generations.

Tracy has recently had pieces on display at the New England Carousel Museum in Bristol, CT and regularly participates in shows throughout New England.

Tracy is currently working as the art director for the Berkshire Carousel in Pittsfield, MA.
